We are the Champions

Champions

On a cold Saturday afternoon near the Dublin Meath border, our senior footballers played Clann Mhuire in the last game of the league.

A win would give the Barrs the league while a loss would put us in a play off with a number of teams in the running. In a tense low scoring first half, the Barrs found it hard to settle and should of been ahead by six points against a very hard working Clann Mhuire team.

Nerves were getting the better of our squad as the teams went in level, four points a piece at half time. The move of Keith Russell out to the half foward and a two man inside line paid off as Gerry Doddrill kicked three great points in a matter of minutes.

The crucial score came mid way through the half when the Barrs were awarded a free near the Clann Mhuir goal. A quick thinking Russeller picked out the lose Karl Tunner who banged it into the net for the crucial score of the match.

County board

The Barrs finished out the game by winning by 1-11 to 0-8. A great crowd from our parish celebrated as the vice chairman of the county board presented the cup to our captain Gerard O’Reilly.

A big thank you to the mentors and players of Clann Mhuire who stood around for the presentation and applauded our team. Last night was a great night in the club and it was great to see every body in great form.

Well done to Joe Lyons, Liam Keeting, Derek Sweetman, Ray O’Reilly, PJ Buckely and Gavin Moore. To the players of the team, the club are really proud of you and the effort you have put in!!

We are learning all the time and lets keep it going until we reach our full potential. Thank you to all the mentors from our juvenile teams over the years who have worked with these players.

Thanks must also go to our club committee who have provided the resources for the team and have given great support to the players and manager.
