A Bittersweet Day

2 Hurlers

On a damp wet afternoon in Marley park at ten to seven, the weekend was looking very bad for our senior hurlers as they went down to Ballinteer St Johns.

The local club’s ground and club house is situated in a lovely position at the foothills of the Dublin Mountains. The pitch was in great condition as the two teams went into battle for the points.

The Barrs went in at half time ahead by a point after they went behind to a early goal by St Johns. The game was won and lost on chances taken and not taken. The Barrs missed two penalties and two certain goals as Ballinteer scored their penalty and took their goal chances.

At full time St Johns won on a score line of 3-13 to 1-12. As the Barrs player huddled together under the shadow of the Dublin mountains in conference and gloom, the word came in that our near neighbours Plunketts had beaten St. Vincents.

This meant that the Barrs went through to the quarter finals and the mood of everyone changed to joy!! Three games and another championship. It’s up to the players now!!
