Under 21′s win County Championship

Sunday, February 19th, 2012

The club achieved another major goal by winning their first 21 hurling title in 66 years at O Toole park yesterday.

In a very dominating team performance the Barrs beat a very competitive St Bridget’s team who battled hard till the final whistle. On a scoreline of 4- 8 to 1-6 the Barrs got the scores at vital times which killed off the challenge of the Blanchardstown men early in the second half.

What must be a record for any Dublin county final Eamon ‘Troller Dillon scored 4-5 of the Barrs score. As one of the Barrs supporters said,

“The Troller went off the rails today, he put on a superb hurling performance.”

The goal from a free in the second half from a pass from Shane Cummins was hurling at its best. Yet for all Eamon’s feats this was a team performance all over the park. The six backs of Brown, Kavanagh, Hyland, Kehoe, Dodrill & Morgan were tight and hurled with a great passion.

With the commanding figure of Ger Dodrill the team stopped the Bridget’s forwards and set up loads of balls for the forwards to feed off. The centre field after a slow start took over control with Arron Costello gaining in skill and presence putting in a great performance.

With good ball coming into the forwards it was only a matter of time that the net would be hit. Dingle, Sweetman, Cummins, Dillon & Forgarty were all dangerous on the ball. For a man who is not known for being a goal keeper, Cillan Donahue put in a great hours work.

Congratulations to the management team of Niall Brady, Seamus McGratten, Paul Turner, Karl Tunner and Niall Paget.
