Championship match review Ballyboden

To start to write a piece on last nights match is hard after been beaten by 21 points.Yet sometimes when you feel so disappointed with a result that is when your at your most strongest. A result like that really focus your mind on how we are going to do in this years championship and how our hurling progress is going in the club.

First of all let me commend the players and the management of the senior team who played last night. Wakening up this morning and thinking about last nights results will be a hard.Yet most of us in the club over the last thirty years have felt that feeling after taking such a  hammering.

None of those players last went out to be beaten. Every one gave it their best shot on the night against a very strong Balyboden team who would not be off the stander in Kilkenny terms in Dublin club hurling.

But life goes on and as the championship is on a group bases we are still there with a shout. We are still in the “A’ championship were a lot of other teams would love to be. We will probably be written off by a lot of people as not been up to this level. We will probably be told we are very limited.

This may be all true and maybe at times we losses the run of our self at what stander we are at. Yet we are there on our own merits having won the B champioship in 2011 and its up to ourself to stay there..

So what can we learn from last night. First of we need to sharpen up our hurling skills which comes down to the basic and the players themselves. Secondly we need to take our chances which at this level only come now and again. Thirdly we need to realises that the whole team need to be putting in the effort as a unit.

I could give a thousand reason or excuses why we were beaten last night but we need to focus on our self.If we want to stay in the A championship the work has to be done. As was said in the preview article progress has been made and a lot of really hard work from the players and managers have gone in over the last ten years.

This progress needs to be kept going and it is up to every one in the club to do this. So lets set out our stall and use last night as a spring board to keep this progress going forward. We need to learn from last night and work hard on our weakness.
