Last week’s matches began on Tuesday with 3 disappointing defeats in important games. Our Junior hurlers were knocked out of the championship after a flat performance against a more physical Clontarf side. We never really got going in this one and exited the competition without putting up a decent fight. Best of luck to Clontarf in the semi-final. Our U16 hurlers were beaten by a strong Fingallians side out in Swords. While Fingallians would not be known as a hurling club, this is a very capable team who now sit comfortably at the top of the division 2 league. Our lads remain in with a shout for a playoff spot despite this 8 point defeat. Also on Tuesday our U13s were well beaten by a strong Bray Emmets team in the bogies, despite some good performances from some of our lads.
The only game on Wednesday was a minor football league game against Skerries in the bogies. In what was probably our lads best performance of the year we ran out 5-11 to 1-5 winners. This keeps us in mid-table of a very competitive division 2 football league, and keeps the lads on track as they prepare for championship in September. On Thursday our 3rd hurling team exited their championship against St Judes, even though we had enough chances to win it on the night. Our U14 footballers had a good league win out in O’Tooles and our Senior camogie team beat Dunboyne in what proved a very worthwhile friendly for our girls a s they continue their preparation for championship.
On Saturday evening while there was a big clash in Nowlan Park between Kilkenny and Tipperary, all eyes were on the bogies and our senior hurlers game with Clanna Gael. The away team started the brighter and looked the better team in the first half, but a big push from our lads in the second, saw us winning out by 1-16 to 11 pts. This win keeps us on track for a promotion play-off spot later in the year. On Sunday our Junior Hurlers lost out to league leaders Maurs even though we got 3 goals in the opening 10 minutes. Our Minor football game with Scoil Ui Conaill was postponed and on Monday night our Junior 7 hurlers lost out to Realt Dearg in the league.
On Sunday evening in the club a large crowd enjoyed the great weather at our 2nd BBQ. Undoubtedly the highlight of the day was welcoming Eamonn Dillon back into the club after Dublin’s historic Leinster Hurling Final win over Galway in Croke Park. It was a great performance from the Dubs to secure their 1st Leinster title since 1961.
