Both our Junior and Senior Camogie teams began their league campaigns last week. On Tuesday night the juniors were beaten out in Ballinteer and and Thursday our senior were disappointing in their loss to Faughs in the Bogies. Both teams still have plenty of time to build during the season and with both teams seeing an incres of players at trainign, it shouln’t be long before they start getting the results.
Another busy weekend for the Club began as usual with our young boys and girls playing in their Go-Game leagues. These are small sided, non-competitive matches where skills not scores are the important thing. Our U8′s travelled the short distance down the road to Na Fianna while our U9′s were also away, to Clontarf. Both teams had good numbers and put in a good performance. Our U10s were in the Bogies against Naomh Barrog while our U11′s made their way over to Finglas to take on Erins Isle. The U12′s game with Whitehall in the Bogies was a very exciting game as weas our U12 camogie match in Howth against Beann Eadair. Our U14 game with Craobh Chiaran was off and will take place in Clonsaugh on Wednesday night.
The big game of the day came in the evening when Brigids travelled down from Blanchardstown to play our Intermediate footballers. Our lads had no had the best start to their campaign, so a win was vital. in a tight tussle, the early dominance of our forward line paid off, and goals from Paul Turner and Thomas Gleeson were the crucial scores in a 2-8 to 0-9 victory. The jury is still out on whether Thomas meant his goal, or not!
On Sunday our minor hurlers were first up against Setanta, in again what was a must win game for both sides. Our lads looked sharper form the off and took their scores well. We were able to withstand a spirited second half comeback from Setanta and won by 10 points. Our B game will take place on Tuesday night against Peregrines. Our Junior footballers were next up in their game against James Gaels. Again we got off to a flying start and played some good football in the first half, but conceding a soft goal on the stroke of halftime proved crucial to the result of the game. James Gaels used the wind to their advantage in the second half, and some wasteful play from our forwards, left James Gaels a point up at the final whistle. We would like to wish the James Gaels wing back a speedy recovery from the injury he sustained.
In the afternoon game our 3rd football team received a walkover from Ballyfermot.
