Our Under 9 team in the Bogies with mentors Tomo & Mary
Last weeks action got under way last Thursday with the club’s first midweek game of the season as our Junior Camogie girls travelled out to play Ballinteer in their opening league game. The girls put in a great display but were beaten by a good home side.
On Saturday after the Bogies got the go-ahead to host the weekends action it was our U9 hurlers who were first out, with a good win over O’Tooles. Our U10 hurlers also recorded a good win out in Howth against Beann Eadair while our U11s were unlucky to loose out to a strong Craobh Chiaran team in the Bogies. The U10 camogie girls travelled up to Brigids to play in a blitz competition and our U12 hurlers lost out in Round Towers. The U12 girls beat Commercials in the Bogies and our U14 footballer got a walkover. Our U8 hurling game and U15 ladies football games were both called off.
On Saturday evening the main game of the weekend took place in the Bogies as our Senior hurlers played Kilmacud Crokes in division 2 of the hurling league. Crokes started the game very well and settled into a 6 point lead midway through the first half. Then the Barrs hit a purple patch and scored 2-2 in 5 minutes, with Eamonn Dillon and Ryan Curley finding the net and despite conceding a late goal we were happy to be just 1 point down at the break. We performed much better in the second half and ran out comfortable winners 2-17 to 2-12.
Our Junior hurlers continued their good start to the league on Sunday with a hard fought draw with Clontarf in the Bogies with Keith Langan bagging 3 goals. These 2 sides have had some great battles in recent years and this was no exception. Our 3rd team got the points for their game against Parnells and played a competitive game among themselves.
Our minor A footballers had lost their first 2 league games despite playing some great football, so a win on Sunday against Crumlin was essential. The lads wasted little time and piled on the scores early, with Crumlin struggling to cope with our inside forward line of Glen Doddrill, Tommy O’Neill and Ryan Curley. In the end we ran out comfortable winners. Our B team were soundly beaten by Finians by a total of 33 players got game-time between the 2 panels.
Also on Sunday our U15 footballers were very impressive in their win away to Brigids. Frank Farrell continued his own good form with 1-2 as the lads got the vital 2 points. Our U15 camogie girls lost out to Plunketts in their league clash.
