The restaurant reopened yesterday to a packed house. The food was great and service first class. Hopefully everyone will keep supporting it over the next few months as alot of hard work went into it.

Our club chairman worked tirelessly all week with the manager Martina Curley who did a great job. Thanks to all the other staff that made the day a great success.

Seamus Burke R.I.P

Saturday, February 5th, 2011

It was with great sadness that we learnt of the death of our great friend Seamus Buke who died at 9-30 in St Mary Hospital, Phoenix Park.

Over the last ten years he got to know the club and the people of Cabra very well. He lived all his life in Arbour Hill and was very proud of his Irish Heritage. He was a well educated man who loved reading and conversations on all subjects from plant life to cricket.

He was a man of seventy two when we be came acquainted with him and he traveled the length and breath of Dublin Seven in the service of the cause that was the focus of his life.

The joke amongst all his friends was when he started canvasing with us ten years ago he was five foot four and ten years later he had shrunk to five feet with all the walking he did.

His father came from Buree in the county Limerick and won three senior Dublin hurling leagues in 1913, 1914 & 1915 with a Dublin club called Rapparees.

He donated these medals to our club a number of years ago and they can be seen in the glass case in our club house. To Janet, Tony and Noel who have looked after him like family over the last few years, the club and its members offer our deepest sympathy. Funeral arrangements will be posted early next week. Ar deis De go raibh anaim.

We may have brave men but we will never have better.

Harte

Matt Tracey is a journalist who writes a sport page in An Phoblacht every week for the last number of years who gives the Dubs view on GAA affairs on and off the pitch.

In his recent article on the tragic death of Michaela Harte, he sums up the feeling of people in the city of Dublin by commenting on the gesture by the club flying the Tyrone Flag at half mast for over a week.

This gesture was conducted by the ordinary members of the club who felt in some way that they could share the pain of the Harte family and the McaReavey Family by this small act.
