The Dubliners @ Vicar St

Friday, December 31st, 2010

There was a great session at Vicar St last night with the Dubliners taking to the stage. They were also joined by guest artists such as Damo Dempsey and Glen Hansard.

Barney McKenna was in great form with his sea shanty ‘South Australia’ and John Sheehan’s self composed ‘St Patrick’s Cathedral’ had all the ingredients of that historic place in the tune.

Thanks to all the staff who were very helpful. We met a old friend of the club ‘The Chief’ there and he was talking about a good Cabra man who passed away a few weeks ago and was a great musician from Dingle Road, Alan Tunder. Ar Deis De go raibh a anam uasal.

In the club house of Gaeil Colmcille in Kells on Saturday the 11th December, 300 GAA people from all over Ireland paid tribue to Des and his wife Maria on his 80th birthday.

Micheal Ó Muircheartaigh and Kevin Heffernan were the guests of honour and they told great stories about Dessie’s life and how he was such a great player in both GAA Hurling and Football while also being a great human person.

A number of the Barrs members travelled to Kells to honor one of Dublin’s greatest dual Players. To Conor and his family we thank you for the invite and to Dessie and Maria thanks for showing the way to many people with your wisdom and help.
