Run up to Festival Week

Monday, August 9th, 2010

65 Years2

Our Community festival starts on Saturday 14th Aug with a parade up to the Bogies. We are asking all members of the club to give a hand in some way during the seven days of activities.

It’s your club and your week, please don’t leave it to the faithful few to do all the work. Be an active part of your club and not a hurler on the ditch as we have six teams playing in that league. Contact Johnny Smithers (sn) or Harry Byrne on the club reception 01 868 6209 to find out how you could get involved.

Santa Maria Day Care Centre Update

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

A new voluntary fundraising committee has been set up. They started last weekend with bag packing and have a number of other events planned over the next months. There is still a big gap in funds as there is a proposed 6% cut in HSE funding which will leave the voluntary committee that run the centre in a critical financial state in keeping the centre open.

There is a proposed meeting with the local CEO of the HSE in the next few weeks and hopefully the short fall in funding can be obtained. There was a local development plan drawn up a number of years ago for the whole site around that side of the Church between the HSE, Dublin City Council, and the Church Authorities which should be looked at again. It would also give employment for local people in these difficult times.

We are asking all our club members to support the retention of this community service which most of the area has benefit from for over forty years. Contact the centre which your support in what every way you can.

A big thanks to the O’Neill and Kirby Families for a great day out in Trim. Everything was brilliant and best wishes to Mark and Angie for their future together.

Our Senior hurlers missed out on promotion by a single point as they failed to beat St. Pats of Palmerstown last Wednesday night in a high scoring game. Having come back from a 8 points lead twice, the team lacked the killer punch to go on and win the game.

Santa Marie Day Care Centre – Cabra West

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

The word is out in the area that the Santa Marie Day Care Centre will not get funding after September due to cut backs. Hopefully this is not true as the centre has been a great asset to our commuity over the years.

Even though it’s not part of our club, it is an integral part of our community which we support fully and would encourage our members to likewise. We will get the full story in the few days and will keep you posted on what happens.
