Weekend Review 13th May

Monday, May 13th, 2013

We had a real mixed bag of Results over the weekend with 14 teams in action. On Friday night our U14 Ladies Football team played Thomas Davis in the Bogies. Although we were beaten the girls played very well. The team continues to improve every week and our scoring threat is increasing with every game we play.

The big game on Saturday was the 1st Round of the Intermediate Football Championship against Na Fianna out in Lawless Park in Swords. After a great 1st half performance which saw us 6 pts up at one stage, we faded badly in the second half and we were beaten on a score line of 4-8 to 0-11. We now enter the Intermediate Shield.

On Saturday morning juvenile hurling took centre stage with our U8s, U10s and U11 all competing in the Go Games leagues. The U8s travelled to Clonee to play Erin go Bragh with 22 players and won their 2 games. The U9 game was off due to the children from Gaelscoil Barra making their 1st Holy Communion, we hope they all had a great day. The U10s were unlucky in defeat to plunketts in the bogies with some great individual performances from our lads. The U11s had a good win in Finglas against Erin’s Isle after a great display of hurling. Our U14 Camogie girls had a big win against Naomh Barróg in the bogies.

On Saturday afternoon again it was all hurling. Our U13s were beaten by a strong Naomh Barróg team in St Annes Park. Our U14s received a walkover from Ballinteer St Johns. In the bogies our U16s had a very comfortable win against Kilmacud Crokes in the bogies. This puts us back in the running for the Division 2 league.

On Sunday morning the minor footballers were beaten by 2 points by St Brigids in the bogies. We fell behind in the second half but fought back very well and were unlucky not to get a result in the end. This team still has a lot of potential and are making steady progress this year. This game was followed by our junior footballers against Whitehall in AFL6. This team is a great mix of youth and experience and the mentors got the mix right and we ran out 3 point winners. In the afternoon the AFL10 team drew with Raheny out in St Annes Park.

Also yesterday morning our U11 Camogie had a really great win out in Rush against a previously unbeaten St Maurs team. Our girls played some great stuff and won on a score line of 4-2 to no score.

Inter Footballers win

Monday, April 29th, 2013

The Intermediate Footballers recorded their second win of the league campaign on Saturday evening win a well deserved victory over Clan Mhuire out in The Naul. The picture above shows the lads winning the AFL3 title 3 years ago out in the same venue.

The game was similar to the Dublin and Tyrone league final in that it was very stop-start and wasn’t a free flowing game. Most of our scores came from frees as our forwards always had the upper hand over the Clan Mhuire backline who struggled to contain our pace up front. Strong performances from Carl Turner in the half back line, Ger O’Reilly in midfield and Ger Doddrill in the full forward line were the backbone of this win. We led by 2 points at halftime and went on to win by 6 on a scoreline of 0-13 to 1-4.

This was an important win for the team who were unlucky to lose out by a single point to Nh Barrog midweek, but this win puts us back on track. It also sets us up well for our 1st game in the championship next week against a fancied Na Fianna side out in Swords.

Mickey Harte Pays the Barrs a visit

Tuesday, October 9th, 2012

The club won the Eircom competition and  received a training session from Micky Harte as the winners. He arrived in the Bogie’s in late September on a sunny Saturday morning.

Our under 8s,9s, and 10s were playing and photos with all the teams were the order of the day. Mickey took a training session with our under 15 and minor footballers which was enjoyed by all our players. Mickey went down to the clubhouse and met young and old with plenty of photos been taking.

We really enjoyed the company of one of the best managers in Gaelic games.

Win a training session with Colm Cooper

Win a training session with Colm Cooper

There is a great competition running at the moment which gives clubs the chance to win a training session with Colm ‘Gooch’ Cooper of Kerry. We’d be delighted if he could grace the Bogies with his skills.

We would therefore ask our club members to enter the competition on eircom’s GAA page and give the club to host the Gooch.

Midweek Results

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Two great wins in the Bogies last night Tuesday the 22 of May. Our under 15 footballers had a great match against near neighbours Eirn Isle in a top of the table clash.

The Barrrs came out on top by two points in a great game from both sides. On the other pitch our second hurling team had a good win against Liffey Gaels in the B Championship. Down in Long Meadows on the banks of the river Liffey our third adult team were beaten by Faughs by six points in a very entertaining match. The Barrs showed great spirit.

Dublin Double Header 2012

Saturday, March 10th, 2012

Noel Paget Chairman, Mickey Whelan, Joe Brady at the Fionnbarrs dinner dances were Micky was presented with an award on behave of the people of Cabra on his major sporting achievement on the field of play and as manger and selector of Dublin. “One of our own”.

Dublin footballers and hurlers take center stage in Croke Park on Sunday. The hurlers need a win against a resurgent Cork Hurling team under the new management team of Jimmy Barry Murphy. Dublin will need to be at their best to beat this Cork team.

A very disappointed display against Galway. Competing and winning is the benchmark at this level. Hopefully we will get the result.

The footballers face a stern test against a vast improving Armagh team. A really good performance against Laois. Connolly and O’Gara were in brilliant form. When both are on form they are better to watch then Messi. Fair play to the GAA with the prices, a good day for the ordinary supporter.

James and Katie O’Loughlin and their family are leaving our country for Australia on Monday. The club and its members give them best wishes and hope they have a great future in their adopted country.

James aand Katie have been with the club since they were three years old. They have never missed a training session or match in all their years at the club. Katie and James received a presentation from the club and their teams on Saturday.

Katie was on the under 11 camogie and football team while James was on the under 8 hurling and football team. The picture above  is of James and Kate with their U8′s team mates and manager Nicky Kehoe in the senior dressing room of Naomh Fionnbarra club house.
