Minors in Semi Finals

Our-Comm

Having secured enough points out of the first matches in the group stages of the minor B hurling championship the Barrs face up to Ballinteer in the Bogies.

It was a really good hurling match with nothing between the teams all the way through. Through an in form Troller Dillon, the Barrs edged ahead by two points with a only few minutes left. With Ballinteer attacking and the ball bouncing around the square the ref gave a very strange call awarding a penalty in the last minute. This was converted by Ballinteer who went on to get a point from the puck out.

With a minute of extra time played the Barrs got one back and nearly equalised only to loose by a point. We now play Faughs who toped the other group and will be favorites to beat us out in Tymon Park.

Our minor footballers play Peregrines in the Bogies on Sunday in the semi finals. All support welcomed in the field of dreams!!

U15′s Reach Championship Final

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

St Anne’s Park Raheny was the location for our U15 footballers against St Vincents in the semi final of the Football Championship.

In a game which both teams gave their all, the Barrs came out on top by 3-15 to 3-10. It was a game full of great football and excitement right up to the last minute when Mark Whelan put in a great tackle to stop St Vincent’s getting back into the game.

Great praise must go to the players and management of this team who have worked very hard over the year when at the beginning of the year things looked very black.

Well done to the lads !!

Champions

On a cold Saturday afternoon near the Dublin Meath border, our senior footballers played Clann Mhuire in the last game of the league.

A win would give the Barrs the league while a loss would put us in a play off with a number of teams in the running. In a tense low scoring first half, the Barrs found it hard to settle and should of been ahead by six points against a very hard working Clann Mhuire team.

Nerves were getting the better of our squad as the teams went in level, four points a piece at half time. The move of Keith Russell out to the half foward and a two man inside line paid off as Gerry Doddrill kicked three great points in a matter of minutes. (more…)

On Sathurday our U12,13 and U14′s won their matches. Our U15′s were beaten in a great game against Lucan Sarsfields.

Our Minors drew in the hurling championship with Crumlin having led by seven points with ten minutes left, they were lucky to hang on.

Our U16′s were beaten by a very good Liffey Gaels team in the semi final of the league while our Junior football team were beaten by Na Fianna in their last match of the league. However the team finished in the top four of the league which sets them up nicely to drive on next year and win promotion.

A Bittersweet Day

2 Hurlers

On a damp wet afternoon in Marley park at ten to seven, the weekend was looking very bad for our senior hurlers as they went down to Ballinteer St Johns.

The local club’s ground and club house is situated in a lovely position at the foothills of the Dublin Mountains. The pitch was in great condition as the two teams went into battle for the points.

The Barrs went in at half time ahead by a point after they went behind to a early goal by St Johns. The game was won and lost on chances taken and not taken. The Barrs missed two penalties and two certain goals as Ballinteer scored their penalty and took their goal chances.

At full time St Johns won on a score line of 3-13 to 1-12. As the Barrs player huddled together under the shadow of the Dublin mountains in conference and gloom, the word came in that our near neighbours Plunketts had beaten St. Vincents.

This meant that the Barrs went through to the quarter finals and the mood of everyone changed to joy!! Three games and another championship. It’s up to the players now!!
