Weekend Review 30th March

Monday, March 30th, 2015

The weather was the big winner of the weekend with lots of games being cancelled. On Saturday our Go Games teams did get to play with our U8′s winning their football blitz up in Castleknock and the lads came home with some well earned medals. Our U9′s also had a good win out in Rivervalley against St Finians. Our U11′s and U12′s and U16′s were all in action too on Saturday with some mixed bag of results. Our U13 hurlers had recorded a good home win on Thursday against Wild Geese.

On Sunday it was adult hurling which took centre stage with our seniors and juniors both in action in the Bogies. Our seniors recorded a one point (0-15 to 0-14) victory over St Pats from Palmerston, with Shane Commins hitting 0-9 from placed balls. This sets our lads up well for the rest of the year as we compete in division 1.

Our Juniors had a convincing 7 point win over Crumlin, to out their opening day defeat behind them, with some good performances from our younger troops.

Weekend Review 23rd March

Monday, March 23rd, 2015

The weekend’s brilliant sunshine brought out the best in our young boys and girls in action on Saturday morning with some great games involving our U8s, U9s, U10s and both our U11 boys and girls teams. Our U12s and U13s were also in action on Saturday and again both games produced some great skills and fantastic scores. Our U13 camogie girls kept this up on Sunday morning with a great win in the Bogies to keep their winning run going. Rumour has it Brian Cody was on the phone to Jonnie Browne after the game asking him for some tips !

Our U16 football game with Skerries Harps did not go ahead on Saturday so that was all the action that took place. We should also acknowlege the large amount of referee’s we have in the club, who go out every week and take charge of games from U8 to senior and all levels in between. On Saturday afternoon, one of our up-and-coming referee’s Thomas Gleeson took charge of the Adult Leinster Hurling League game between Plunketts and Cullion HC from Westmeath and received plenty of complements from both teams on his performance.

On Sunday our Intermediate footballers got their first win of the campaign with a vital away win at the Garda. Having lost our opening 2 games, we were under a small bit of pressure to get a result, and the lads delivered with a 1-13 to 0-12 victory. Neither our Junior football games went ahead on Sunday. Our U15′s lost out in their trip to Round Towers Clondalkin but remain in contention in their league. Our minor hurlers got their first win of the league with a comprehensive win over Clontarf in the Bogies winning out by 7-16 to 2-11.

Weekend Review 16th March

Monday, March 16th, 2015

There was a mixed bag of results for our underage teams last weekend, our U8, U9 and U10 footballers all won and lost some of their small sided go games, while our U11 kept their goor run going against Clan Mhuire. Our U16 camogie girls were beaten by Raheny out in St ANnes Park while our U16 hurlers had a comprehensive win over Castleknock in the Bogies. Our U15 hurlers lost out to Clana Gael while our U13 camogie girls received a walkover in their league. Our U11 ladies football team travelled up to Ashbourne to play a challenge game against Donaghmore.

For the adult it was the first weekend of hurling fixtures and our 3 teams were all down to play. Our seniors began their first campaign in the top flight since 2009 with a narrow loss to St Brigids in Russell Park. Despite loosing by the minimum margin, our lads will be happy with their performance and were unlucky not to snatch victory in the last minute, when Dublin goalkeeper Alan Nolan made a superb save from Ryan Curley.

Our Junior 5 hurlers began their campaign with a home game against Bray Emmets. Having missed out on promotion in the play-offs for the last 2 seasons, hopes will be high of going one better this year. However we did not make the best of starts loosing out by 9 points to a strong Bray side. Our 3rd team were beaten by erins Isle in Finglas but this team will no doubt improve as the season goes on.

Our minor footballers will be disappointed by their 4 point home defeat to Round Towers in their league game. A poor start which saw them concede 1-4 with out reply was ultimately their down-fall. they fought hard to claw back the lead but never quite got there, so they suffered their first defeat of the season.

Weekend Review 9th March

Monday, March 9th, 2015

Pictured above is the Dominic’s College team who won the All-Ireland title on Saturday afternoon.

The weekend’s Go-Game action once again got us under away on the field of play over the weekend and our U9s, U11 and U12 hurlers all recorded good wins on Saturday. Our U8s put up a great display in Naomh Mearnog and our U10s also battled well out in O’Tooles. On Sunday our U13 camogie girls kept up their winning ways with a convincing win over Lucan in the Bogies. Our U13 footballers were beaten by a good Round Towers side.

On Saturday afternoon our U16 footballers took on Trinity Gaels in a top-of-the table clash in their league game. In a game which enthralled the large crowd in the Bogies, the result was in doubt right until the last minute. A late Trinity Gaels goal saw them snatch victory by 2 points in a cracking game. Great credit must be given to both sets of players who produced such a great game despite a strong wind blowing across the pitch.

This game was followed by an historic first game for our U11 ladies football team who took on Shankill in the Bogies. This team has been training for 2 years and eagerly awaited their first game. They showed all their skills in a great win, which we are sure wont be the last of the year. Well done girls.

On Sunday it was the turn of our adult footballers to take centre stage with all 3 teams in action. Unfortunately it was a bad day at the office with all 3 teams loosing out. The 3 squads will have to dust themselves down and re-group ahead of their next games in a fortnights time. In what turned out to be a dissappointing day on the results end of things, our minor hurlers were beaten by Lucan in their first game of the year and our U15 footballers suffered their first deafeat to Craobh Chiaran.

Weekend Review 2nd March 2015

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2015

The bad weather last weekend meant that the Bogies was unplayable, so this meant a lot of teams had to travel to play their games. The U8s and U9s both had successful journeys out to Naomh Mearnog and Tyrellstown respectively and the U11s also recorded a good win away to Beann Eadair in Howth. Our U13 camogie girls also had a good win in their league game away to Naomh Barrog.

Our U16s made the journey to Kilmacud Crokes to play their first hurling league game of the year. The game was played in Silverpark, and the sound of the horse racing in Leopardstown could be heard in the background. There was plenty of good hurling on show, from both sides as the game ebbed and flowed, with both teams trading the lead. In the end in was the home team that edged a thriller by a single point 4-10 to 4-9.

On Sunday our Minors travelled to Ringsend Park to play Isles of the Sea. This is a new team with Clana Gael and Scoil Ui Conaill joining together at minor level. In poor conditions both teams gave it their all in the first half, but our lads pulled away in the second half, winning out by 5-8 to 2-4.
