Last weekend’s action began on Friday night with a charity hurling match against Celebridge of Kildare in Alfie Byrne Road in memory of Derek O’Brien. Derek played for both clubs before his untimely death last year. The game was a great success and raised almost €900 for Pieta House. Pictured above is the Finbarr’s team which took part on the night.
On Saturday the bad weather did not deter our young go- games players from taking part in their first hurling matches of the season. There was mixed results on the day but all the players enjoyed their games. Also on Saturday our U16s played in their football league, this week away to Maurs in Rush. Results have been up and down for the lads so far this season, and Saturday continued this vein, with a disappointing 7 point defeat. Conceding 2 early goals was the ultimate difference between the sides.
On Saturday the adult football league started back with our 3 teams all in action in the Bogies. First up was our Intermediate team, who were beaten by a strong Kilmacud Crokes side. Despite a good performance in the second half, we could not make inroads into the Crokes lead. Next up was our AFL6 team who were playing Clontarf. Unfortunately it was a similar result with Clontarf taking the spoils 1-7 to 0-5. The lack of scoring forwards cost up in the end, but management will be hopeful after a decent showing for the players. The AFL10 could not do any better in the 3rd game and they went down to a nine point defeat to St Pats from Palmerston in a game where discipline cost us. Back to the drawing board !
On a positive note, our U15 footballers continued their excellent start to the year with a 6 point win over Fingal Ravens in a classic encounter. This is their fourth win from 4 league games, keep it going lads.
On the Inter County scene over the weekend, the Barrs also featured strongly. Siobhan Kehoe scored Dublin’s goal in their league win over Derry in Bray and Eamon Dillon chipped in 3 points in the Senior Hurlers historic win in Nowlan Park against Kilkenny.
