U15 hurlers win Shield

Monday, October 6th, 2014

On a cool bright morning in John Paul Park our Under 15 hurlers secured the B shield title after a great battle with Ballinteer St Johns. Despite trailing at halftime our lads never lost hope and got themselves back into the game with scores at vital times. The final scoreline of 4-13 to 1-17 shows that both teams gave their all in a dramatic final. Fionnbarra’s goals came from Conor Carberry (2), Pierce O’Brien and Mark O’Neill and there were also some great points from all angles. Indeed it was O’Brien and O’Neill who began to dominate in midfield and the switch of Carberry to centre forward which was to be the move which had a big bearing on the result.

With scores flowing at one end it was the tough defending of David Vavasour and Jake O’ Connor who kept us in it at the other end. With Tadgh Stone pulling off some terrific saves and sending his puck puts with pin point accuracy it was the foundations of the teams success.

The final whistle brought great celebrations and captain Pierce O’Brien collected the shield on behalf of the team and mentors Stephen Hyland, Billy Hyland, Richie O’Reilly and Stephen Costello. It was a fitting way for the lads to finish off a year which they have put so much effort into.

Naomh Fionnbarra: Tadgh Stone. Cillian Dempsey, Brook Owens, Jake O’Connor. David Vavasour, Conor Carberry, Cian Peppard Leonard. Pierce O’Brien, Mark O’Neill. Nathan Masterson, Sean McAuley, Darragh Lyons. Alan McGregor, Brian Draper, Karl Ryan. Sub: Dylan Joyce

Weekend Review 2nd September

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2014

Last weekend saw a full return to action on the pitch with 14 teams taking to the pitch. The first game of the week saw our U12 camogie girls travelling to Ashbourne last Wednesday to play Donaghmore/Ashbourne in a challenge game. The game was played in great spirits by both teams and will bring our girls on, for the rest of their league games. Our minor hurlers also continued their preparation for championship with a good game away to Scoil Ui Conaill. Two disappointing results on Thursday night with our Senior Camogie girls well beaten out in Faughs in their top 4 league playoff game, and also our U15s loosing out to Raheny.

Saturday saw a return of the Go Game leagues after the summer break with our U8s, U9s and U10s all in hurling action in the Bogies. These games are played in a non competitive league where skill development is the main aim.

Later on Saturday evening our Senior hurlers qualified for the semi-finals of the Senior B championship with a 3-18 to 1-12 win over Nh Barrog in the Bogies. Sunday saw another great win for our Junior hurlers who won their championship semi-final over O’Tooles and will now go on to play neighbors Plunketts in the final.
