Week Review 21st July

Monday, July 21st, 2014

There’s not action on the field as the juvenile summer break is now on. The adult break begins next Monday for 3 weeks. Last weeks games began on Tuesday night with the junior hurlers making the trip to Dolphins Barn to play Kevins in the championship. Its was a must win game for us, and the lads played with the right intensity from the throw in. Needing the 2 points to qualify for the quarter final, the lads didn’t disappoint and booked an away game with Ballinteer with a 2-12 to 1-9 victory.

On Wednesday it was the turn of our senior hurlers to play their championship game. With slightly less pressure on us, we played some great hurling from the first minute to the last, and the lads recorded an impressive 3-20 to 1-12 win. For more details of this game, check out grass roots GAA at http://www.grassrootsgaa.ie/adult-hurling-championship/dillon-masterclass-inspires-finbarrs-to-victory-over-erins-isle

On Thursday our senior camogie girls played Brigids in their summer league. We were missing a few regular starters but some of the younger girls got their chance to show what they can do, and there was some good individual displays despite a heavy defeat. Also on Thursday our 3rd hurling team were beaten by Realt Dearg in an entertaining game in the Bogies in their junior D championship game. We had no chance of progressing from the group in this one.

On Saturday the senior hurlers travelled to Naomh Mearnog for the latest game in the league. Starting the day in 3rd position, this was a chance for us to close the gap on the leaders. It was not to be, and in what was probably our worst performance of the year, we lost out by 2 points and now need to regroup to qualify for the promotion playoffs.

How the season is going so far

Monday, July 14th, 2014

Senior hurling

Following a comprehensive victory over Setanta in the Bogies last weekend our senior hurlers remain in the promotion playoff places with just 5 games remaining. The 5 games are all winnable so there is high hopes that we will once again be in the playoff, and hopefully can go one better then last year and go back up to division 1.

With 2 games remaining in the championship we are also in a good position to qualify for the quarter finals, but have two tough games to get through first. However, we know that wins over Erins Isle and Whitehall will mean that we go through.

Intermediate Football

Having exited the intermediate football championship to Parnells we now await the draw for the B championship. This is a relativity new competition, but will give our young team a chance to gain experience of playing in championship games at this level. This is a competition we could go well in.

Having lost our first 3 games in the league, we looked to be heading for a relegation dog-fight. The lads have turned it around in the past couple of weeks, and 2 vital wins last week against Whitehall and Sylvesters have moved us up the table away form any relegation fears. It’s now hoped this very young team can push on, and the promotion play-offs is not a million miles away, if we can keep this run going.

Senior Camogie

The senior camogie team is currently playing in the summer league in preparation for championship in September. Having completed 4 of their 7 league games, we have 2 wins and 2 defeats. Its hoped that the summer league will keep the momentum going over the summer, to allow the girls get a good run in the championship.

Junior Camogie

The junior camogie team has struggled in some of their league games this season, but this young team is improving with every game. Numbers are better this year and its hoped we can put up a good performance in the championship games later in the year.

Junior 5 Hurling

With just 4 league games to go our junior hurlers are just 2 points off the top of the league. Having narrowly missed out on promotion last season, we are in a good position to, at least make the playoffs, this year. In the championship a win over St Kevins this week, will see them through to the quarter finals.

Junior 7 Hurling

Unfortunately our lads were eliminated for their remaining league games, having given 2 walkovers early in the season. They will complete their championship campaign this week against Realt Dearg. Then its back to the drawing board to begin their preparations for next season.

Junior 6 football

Similarly to our Inter footballers our season started slowly, but has come to life in recent weeks. A great win over Clana Gael in Ringsend last week saw our lads qualify for the semi final of the championship. This will be played later in the month. In recent weeks our league form has improved which has seen us move out of the relegation places, with 5 games left to play.

Junior 10 football

With just 2 games to go our lads are in second place having won 8 and drew 1 of their 11 league games so far. Wins in our last 2 games (against Raheny and Monicas) would see us into the knockout stage of the league.

Minor Hurling

A draw with Ballyboden in their last league game earlier this month finished off a satisfactory league campaign for our minor hurlers. Playing in division 1 is always difficult but our lads pout in some really good performances and should have nothing to fear when the championship comes around in September.

For the first time this year we entered a second minor hurling team in the league. They competed in division 4 and had some great wins along the way and ended up finishing in a creditable 3rd place.

Minor Football

This years league campaign will go down as “one that got away”. Having played some great football in all games we gave up big leads in 3 games and lost games we should have won comfortably. However following a good finish to the campaign hopes are high of another good run in the championship this year, following last years historic triumph.

Our summer camps which ran for the first 2 weeks in July proved to be a huge success with a large number of children turning up on both the football and hurling/camogie weeks. The club would like to thank all the coaches and helpers who made the event such a success.

On the pitch, most of our juvenile teams are on the summer break so its down to the adult teams to keep the action going. We have had some good results in the past couple of weeks in some big games.

A full review of all teams can be now viewed in our Match Report section.

U16s Championship Winners May 2014

The weekend’s action kicked off on Friday with our Inter footballers in action against Ballyboden in the Bogies. Having played well, but loosing out, to Clontarf during the week, a win was a must for the lads. The game ebbed and flowed with both teams having periods of dominance, our lads finished stronger to win out by a single point. This was a vital win and lifts us away from the relegation playoff places. We can now build on this win and push towards the playoffs.

On Saturday, the Bogies was a busy place with our U8′s getting the show on the road with a good game against Beann Eadair from Howth. Our U9s made the short journey up to Martin Savage Park to play in a football blitz against Plunketts and Na Fianna. There were some great games and all players were well deserving of their medals at the end of the day.

Back in the Bogies, it was our U11 who produced the best performance of the weekend by beating a strong Whitehall side. Having been well beaten by the same opposition a few weeks ago, our lads showed great determination to overturn the result and produce a great win. Our U12s were next up against St Marys and again there were some great skills on show from both teams in a really entertaining game of football.

The club action finished early on Saturday to allow supporters travel to Wexford to cheer on the Dublin hurlers. They produced a strong second half performance to win by 5 points. We wish them all the best in 3 weeks time when they defend their Leinster Championship in Croke Park.

On Sunday we had 2 junior football games. Our junior 6′s were first up against table-toppers Templeogue Syne St. In a tight game, our young players were to the fore with a little help from some more experienced players. In the end we probably left the game behind us despite playing some great football, and kicking some superb scores. Synge St showed why they are top of the league and won out 1-11 to 1-8. Our junior 10s were well beaten by a good Clontarf side on Sunday afternoon.

Weekend Review 14th April

Monday, April 14th, 2014

Both our Junior and Senior Camogie teams began their league campaigns last week. On Tuesday night the juniors were beaten out in Ballinteer and and Thursday our senior were disappointing in their loss to Faughs in the Bogies. Both teams still have plenty of time to build during the season and with both teams seeing an incres of players at trainign, it shouln’t be long before they start getting the results.

Another busy weekend for the Club began as usual with our young boys and girls playing in their Go-Game leagues. These are small sided, non-competitive matches where skills not scores are the important thing. Our U8′s travelled the short distance down the road to Na Fianna while our U9′s were also away, to Clontarf. Both teams had good numbers and put in a good performance. Our U10s were in the Bogies against Naomh Barrog while our U11′s made their way over to Finglas to take on Erins Isle. The U12′s game with Whitehall in the Bogies was a very exciting game as weas our U12 camogie match in Howth against Beann Eadair. Our U14 game with Craobh Chiaran was off and will take place in Clonsaugh on Wednesday night.

The big game of the day came in the evening when Brigids travelled down from Blanchardstown to play our Intermediate footballers. Our lads had no had the best start to their campaign, so a win was vital. in a tight tussle, the early dominance of our forward line paid off, and goals from Paul Turner and Thomas Gleeson were the crucial scores in a 2-8 to 0-9 victory. The jury is still out on whether Thomas meant his goal, or not!

On Sunday our minor hurlers were first up against Setanta, in again what was a must win game for both sides. Our lads looked sharper form the off and took their scores well. We were able to withstand a spirited second half comeback from Setanta and won by 10 points. Our B game will take place on Tuesday night against Peregrines. Our Junior footballers were next up in their game against James Gaels. Again we got off to a flying start and played some good football in the first half, but conceding a soft goal on the stroke of halftime proved crucial to the result of the game. James Gaels used the wind to their advantage in the second half, and some wasteful play from our forwards, left James Gaels a point up at the final whistle. We would like to wish the James Gaels wing back a speedy recovery from the injury he sustained.

In the afternoon game our 3rd football team received a walkover from Ballyfermot.
