Weekend Review 7th April

Monday, April 7th, 2014

Our Under 9 team in the Bogies with mentors Tomo & Mary

Last weeks action got under way last Thursday with the club’s first midweek game of the season as our Junior Camogie girls travelled out to play Ballinteer in their opening league game. The girls put in a great display but were beaten by a good home side.

On Saturday after the Bogies got the go-ahead to host the weekends action it was our U9 hurlers who were first out, with a good win over O’Tooles. Our U10 hurlers also recorded a good win out in Howth against Beann Eadair while our U11s were unlucky to loose out to a strong Craobh Chiaran team in the Bogies. The U10 camogie girls travelled up to Brigids to play in a blitz competition and our U12 hurlers lost out in Round Towers. The U12 girls beat Commercials in the Bogies and our U14 footballer got a walkover. Our U8 hurling game and U15 ladies football games were both called off.

On Saturday evening the main game of the weekend took place in the Bogies as our Senior hurlers played Kilmacud Crokes in division 2 of the hurling league. Crokes started the game very well and settled into a 6 point lead midway through the first half. Then the Barrs hit a purple patch and scored 2-2 in 5 minutes, with Eamonn Dillon and Ryan Curley finding the net and despite conceding a late goal we were happy to be just 1 point down at the break. We performed much better in the second half and ran out comfortable winners 2-17 to 2-12.

Our Junior hurlers continued their good start to the league on Sunday with a hard fought draw with Clontarf in the Bogies with Keith Langan bagging 3 goals. These 2 sides have had some great battles in recent years and this was no exception. Our 3rd team got the points for their game against Parnells and played a competitive game among themselves.

Our minor A footballers had lost their first 2 league games despite playing some great football, so a win on Sunday against Crumlin was essential. The lads wasted little time and piled on the scores early, with Crumlin struggling to cope with our inside forward line of Glen Doddrill, Tommy O’Neill and Ryan Curley. In the end we ran out comfortable winners. Our B team were soundly beaten by Finians by a total of 33 players got game-time between the 2 panels.

Also on Sunday our U15 footballers were very impressive in their win away to Brigids. Frank Farrell continued his own good form with 1-2 as the lads got the vital 2 points. Our U15 camogie girls lost out to Plunketts in their league clash.

Weekend Review 31st March

Monday, March 31st, 2014

Pictured above are members of the Cabra Pigeon Club who recently made a very kind donation to our Juvenile section following a fundraiser in the Club.

The weather again played a big part over the weekend, as the Bogies was unplayable so many games were called off with some being switched to other grounds. Our U8s travelled to Peregrines in Blakestown to play in their football blitz. Despite being low on numbers, the lads put in a great display and won 3 of their games and came home with well deserved medals. No doubt these lads will win many more medals in the years to come.

Our U9s came with Craobh Chiaran fell foul of the elements as did our U10 game against Ballyboughal. Our U11s made the long trip out to Howth to play Beann Eadair. This must be one of the most scenic locations in Dublin GAA (despite the Bogies off course) and both teams played some beautiful football as well in a great game. Our U12s also made a long trip over to Portmarnock to play Naomh Mearnog. Unfortunately we well beaten on the day. the club would like to thank parents who drove the players out on short notice due to a delay with the bus. Our U12 camogie girls game was off against Raheny.

In the afternoon our U14 hurlers were first up in their game with Naomh Barrog. In a game switched from the Bogies to Kilbarrock the home team were comfortable winner despite our lads playing some nice hurling in difficult conditions. Our U15 ladies footballers were also beaten on the road by Whitehall Colmcille. Our U15 hurling game against Naomh Barrog was called off.

On Sunday our senior hurling game with St Brigids was the main game of the day. In a game that we never got into we were soundly beaten by a strong home team and leaves us with plenty of work to do to restart our promotion campaign. Our Junior 5 hurlers beat Brendans in a scrappy game in Islandbridge to keep up their winning start to the league. Our Junior 7 game away to St Pats of Donabate did not go ahead.

Our Minor A footballers were narrowly beaten by Lucan in Adamstown and our minor B team beat O’Dwyers in Balbriggan to complete the weekends action.

Weekend Review 24th March

Monday, March 24th, 2014

The weekend got underway with our juvenile Go Game matches on Saturday morning. The U8 game against Setanta was cut short by a down pour of hail and rain in the Bogies during the second half. Our U9s played Clontarf in the all weather pitch in Alfie Byrne Road in a great game, while our U10s played out an entertaining draw with Craobh Ciaran in the Bogies. Our U11s played Erins Isle in Finglas and our U12s also hosted Ciaran’s in the Bogies.

The U12 camogie girls hosted a blitz featuring Lucan and Ballinteer in the Bogies with the girls wining 1 and drawing 1 with some great skills on show. On the big pitch our U15 ladies football team got their first competitive win since the team was put together last year, with a big win over James Gaels. Well Done girls !

On Sunday it was a bad day at the office for our top 2 football teams. Our Intermediates lost out to Scoil Ui Conaill in Clontarf which leaves us with out a win after 3 games, despite us playing some good football at times. Our second team went down to a heavy defeat in Skerries while our third team received a walkover from Kevins/Killians.

Our minor A hurlers were unlucky to loose out to Cuala in Shankill, when it looked like the referee blew up 5 mins early. Our minor B team had a good win over Na Fianna in the Bogies, while our U15 camogie girls beat the same opposition in Johnstown Park. Our U15 footballer lost out to Raheny by just a single point in their league game

Weekend Review 18th March

Tuesday, March 18th, 2014

As the weather begins to improve and the evenings begin to stretch, our Club season progresses. There were no adult matches over the Bank Holiday weekend, so our juvenile section took centre stage with 7 games down for decision.

Our U8 and U9 footballers were in Go Game action in the Bogies in what proved 2 great games against St Peregrins and Ballymun Kickams. Both teams have 20 players and are making good progress so far this season. The U10s travelled to St Annes park to play Naomh Barrog and had a great win in a very high scoring game, under the watchful eyes of Thomas Gleeson and Seamas McGrattan who took charge this weekend.

The U11′s had a BYE this weekend so had a well deserved weekend off and the U12s hosted Castleknock in another closely contested game in the Bogies. Our U14 hurlers lost out to Clana Gael in Ringsend and on Sunday our U15s out in a great performance only to loose out to a late Kilmacud Crokes goal in Stillorgan. The final game of the weekend saw our U15 ladies footballers loose out narrowly to Clontarf in the Bogies.

Weekend Review 10th March

Monday, March 10th, 2014

It was a busy weekend of action on the field with 17 games going ahead. Our U8′s as usual were first to play as they traveled out to Trinity Gaels to play their first hurling game of the year. Although the ground may not be quite ready for ground hurling, our lads put in a great display in what was a great game between the 2 teams. Our U9 and U10 hurlers were also in action, both against near neighbors, Plunketts and Erins Isle. Again both sets of games were very competitive.

Our U11′s played Crumlin in the Bogies in what was a very close game. Both teams showed great skill and despite a huge wind in the bogies entertained the crowd with some great skills. Well done to Crumlin on their win. Next up were the U15 ladies football team who played St Peters. In what was a very high scoring game, the visitors ran out winners. Also in action were our U12 hurlers who were narrowly beaten by Thomas Davis in Kiltipper Road. Its was a busy weekend for the U12′s who also played host to Erin Go Bragh on Sunday, but again were unfortunate to loose out.

On Saturday our minor hurlers played St Vincents in division 1 of the minor hurling league. The first half was a close and dogged affair, with both defences well on top. An Adam Milne goal 5 mins before half time seemed to have given the Barrs the upper hand, but a strong second half performance from Vincents saw them 8 points winners at the end.

Both our U10 and U12 camogie girls were in blitz action on Saturday with the U10s hosting Round Towers, Judes and Commercials. This was the first game for many of our girls and they really seemed to enjoy the occasion. All games were very close and all teams went home happy with their days work. Our U12s travelled the short distance Plunketts on the Navan Road for their blitz games and again they will be very happy winning 3 of their 4 games.

Our final game on Saturday saw our U14 footballers loose out to a stronger Parnells teams in St Davids. These lads were then involved in an invitational tournament organised by Blanchardstown IT in the Club on Sunday. It also included players from Ballymun Kickams, Whitehall and Peregrines and saw some really talented players showing off their skills all afternoon. Thanks to all involved for organising.

The action on Sunday began in the Bogies with 2 disappointing defeats. First up our Inter footballers lost out to Garda 0-15 to 0-9 despite having a lot of good possession. This result leaves us without a win from our 2 games, but some young players have made the transition into the inter team, which is encouraging for the rest of the season. Our Junior 6 footballers also lost out to Fingallians in their first league game, and again it was a game we could have, and maybe should have won. Both teams will have two weeks before they play again to work on their performance.

Our minor B hurlers had their first win this season against Fingallians out in Swords. In what was a very competitive game it was Chris O’Brien’s goal in the first half which ultimately made the difference. Also on Sunday our U15 footballers were narrowly defeated out in St Pats Donabate and our U15 camogie girls lost out at home to Vincents.
