It was a busy weekend of action on the field with 17 games going ahead. Our U8′s as usual were first to play as they traveled out to Trinity Gaels to play their first hurling game of the year. Although the ground may not be quite ready for ground hurling, our lads put in a great display in what was a great game between the 2 teams. Our U9 and U10 hurlers were also in action, both against near neighbors, Plunketts and Erins Isle. Again both sets of games were very competitive.
Our U11′s played Crumlin in the Bogies in what was a very close game. Both teams showed great skill and despite a huge wind in the bogies entertained the crowd with some great skills. Well done to Crumlin on their win. Next up were the U15 ladies football team who played St Peters. In what was a very high scoring game, the visitors ran out winners. Also in action were our U12 hurlers who were narrowly beaten by Thomas Davis in Kiltipper Road. Its was a busy weekend for the U12′s who also played host to Erin Go Bragh on Sunday, but again were unfortunate to loose out.
On Saturday our minor hurlers played St Vincents in division 1 of the minor hurling league. The first half was a close and dogged affair, with both defences well on top. An Adam Milne goal 5 mins before half time seemed to have given the Barrs the upper hand, but a strong second half performance from Vincents saw them 8 points winners at the end.
Both our U10 and U12 camogie girls were in blitz action on Saturday with the U10s hosting Round Towers, Judes and Commercials. This was the first game for many of our girls and they really seemed to enjoy the occasion. All games were very close and all teams went home happy with their days work. Our U12s travelled the short distance Plunketts on the Navan Road for their blitz games and again they will be very happy winning 3 of their 4 games.
Our final game on Saturday saw our U14 footballers loose out to a stronger Parnells teams in St Davids. These lads were then involved in an invitational tournament organised by Blanchardstown IT in the Club on Sunday. It also included players from Ballymun Kickams, Whitehall and Peregrines and saw some really talented players showing off their skills all afternoon. Thanks to all involved for organising.
The action on Sunday began in the Bogies with 2 disappointing defeats. First up our Inter footballers lost out to Garda 0-15 to 0-9 despite having a lot of good possession. This result leaves us without a win from our 2 games, but some young players have made the transition into the inter team, which is encouraging for the rest of the season. Our Junior 6 footballers also lost out to Fingallians in their first league game, and again it was a game we could have, and maybe should have won. Both teams will have two weeks before they play again to work on their performance.
Our minor B hurlers had their first win this season against Fingallians out in Swords. In what was a very competitive game it was Chris O’Brien’s goal in the first half which ultimately made the difference. Also on Sunday our U15 footballers were narrowly defeated out in St Pats Donabate and our U15 camogie girls lost out at home to Vincents.
