Weekend Review 16th September

Monday, September 16th, 2013

The weekends action began as always on Saturday morning with our ‘Go Games’ teams. Our U8 hurlers travelled, in style on our new club bus, up to Clonee to play in a blitz against Erin Go Bragh, Wild Geese and Tyrellstown. Our lads won 2 out our 3 games and went home happy with their well deserved medals. Our U9 hurlers game was off due to a bereavement in Round Towers of Lusk, and the club would like to pass on our condolences to all involved in their club.

Our U10s travelled out the coast road to play Scoil Ui Chonaill and were unlucky to loose out by a point. Meanwhile in the bogies our U11s put in a great effort and came out winners against Ballyboden. Our U14s were next up in the bogies in their hurling league game with St Judes. In a great team performance we ran out easy winners to leave us clear at the top with 2 games to play. One more win will be enough to secure the division 2 title. Our U13 hurlers travelled out to Craobh Chiarain and hurled very well and only narrowly lost out to a team pushing for promotion. the Intermediate game against Ballyboughal did not go ahead on Saturday evening.

On Sunday we had a mixed bag of results in some very important fixtures. Our minor hurlers came from behind to see off Thomas Davis in the 1st round of the championship. It was good to get the win and sets us up well for the 2 remaining group games later this month. In the bogies our junior 6 footballers were beaten by just 1 point in what was a must win game for us. We remain in the relegation places of this league with just 2 games to go. Hopefully the lads will get stuck in and train hard over the next month to try and retain our status in division 6. Our division 10 team continued their good run in their league with a hard fought win over Rosmini Gaels by 2-10 to 2-9.

Team of the week goes to the U15 hurlers who produced a fine performance to beat Castleknock in the semi final of the hurling championship. Great credit must be given to both sets of players who produced a great game in terrible conditions. Our lads ran out 1 point winners on a scoreline of 3-14 to 6-4

Irish Dancing Classes

Thursday, September 12th, 2013

Irish dancing classes are taking place on Mondays at 6 pm and Saturdays at 12 pm for boys and girls. All levels are taught from beginners to advanced, from age 3 upwards.

The classes are taught by qualified Irish dance teacher Nina Burke who was a member of Riverdance and toured Asia, North America, Europe and danced in the Gaiety for the summer runs of the show.

Nina has won numerous titles including 1st place at Dublin, Leinster, Great Britain, All Scotland and North American National championships. Nina also consistently placed in the top 3 at the World Irish dancing championships. These achievements are matched by very few other dancers not just in Ireland but worldwide.

This class aims to teach dancers to the best of their ability while having fun and enjoying Irish dancing. Our dancers take part in shows, events and TV performances.  This year we took part and broke the Guinness world record for the longest Riverdance line. Classes are taught through English however Irish is used throughout the class and is encouraged.

We are affiliated with An Comisiún le Rincí Gaelacha. Call 087-9421544 or email bkfschool@gmail.com for more information or come along on the day as all are welcome.

Weekend Review 9th September

Photo: Some great wins to day.Our Minor footballers beat Round Towers of Clondalkin, Our under 15s beat Synge St,both in championship, Our second hurling team beat Ballinteer in the league and our third hurling team were beaten by Pats of Donabate. Below is our under 15 team.Well done lads

Last weeks action on the field began with a top of the table clash in the bogies with our U16 hurlers taking on Fingallians in division 2 of the league. It was a great encounter with some fantastic scores from both teams, in the end Fingallians won by 3 points on a scoreline of 4-11 to 3-11. This result leaves Fingallians top of the league with 2 games left to play.

On Thursday night our senior camogie team began their championship campaign with a narrow defeat away to Raheny, despite putting in a good performance (2-18 to 3-8). They play Portabello next week, in a must win game to qualify for the next round. Our U14 ladies football team lost out to Ballyboughal in their championship game in the Bogies on Friday night. The girls had a quick turn around to Saturday morning where they had a good win away to Thomas Davis , 4-5 to 2-2.

Also on Saturday morning our U8, U9s, U10s and U11 all played matches in the ‘Go Games’ football leagues with some great skills on show from the stars of the future. Our U13s travelled out to Ballyboden for their football league game. They came away with a convincing win which leaves them just 2 points off the top of the league with 4 games left. Our U14s had a good win over O’Tooles in their football league clash in the Bogies. Our U16s rounded off the juvenile action on Saturday win an away win out in Naomh Olaf’s in Sandyford. This result confirms their place in the football league semi finals in 4 weeks time.

The main game of the weekend was on Saturday evening as our senior hurlers made the short journey over to the Ballymun Road to play Setanta. This was always going to be a close game with the two teams both in the playoff places in the league. The weather did its best to ruin the game but both sets of players gave their all in tough conditions. It was back to the wall stuff for our lads for most of the 2nd half, having had 2 men sent off, but they dug it out to win the game by 3 points, 1-12 to 0-12. Its very close at the top of this league but 2 wins in our remaining 2 games would ensure a place in the promotion playoffs.

On Sunday morning the bogies hosted 4 important games in a very busy morning. At the same team our 2nd hurling team travelled out to Ballinteer and came away with a valuable victory puts us back in contention for promotion up to Intermediate hurling. We have 2 home games left and again 2 wins would ensure a playoff spot.

Back in the bogies it was our 3rd team who got the action underway against St Pats from Donabate. With the other games going on at the same time, it meant we had a depleted team, but the players out in a great effort but fell short in the end. The minor footballers were next up in their first game in this years championship against Round Towers. The lads looked very sharp and clinically took their chances and won comfortably 3-14 to 0-8. Next up is St Annes away in two weeks time. Another championship game followed, this time it was the U15 footballers (pictured above) taking on Templogue Syne Street. Again our lads played all the good football and ran out comfortable winners and go on to play Whitehall in the next round.

The U11 camogie team girls finished off a hectic weekend with a great game against Kevins HC, with both teams showing very good skill levels and being well able to get stuck in. All that was left to do then was, to pack away the nets and flags for another week and get a spot to watch the Cork Clare All Ireland Final!

The Unsung Heros

Wednesday, August 28th, 2013

The unsung heros,

Work behind the scene.

Some work alone,

Some as a team.

There’s strips to be washed,

Folded and pressed,

So the kids are turned out,

Smartly dressed.

There’s ref’s and linesmen,

Other sweep the floors,

Pulling pints at the bar,

Or manning the doors.

Events are organised all year round,

Buy tickets to see the Dubs,

Play on hallow ground.

The bus driver brings everyone near and far,

Then gets home for last drinks at the bar.

And its all for the children,

From Cabra East and West,

With their jerseys of blue,

And Naomh Fionnbarra crest.

There’s teams of 15, Subs make it more,

As the parents cheer on when the goals they do score,

And if they score 10, or big fat zeros,

They know they have a great team behind them,

Their unsung heros.
