Weekend Review 17th June

Monday, June 17th, 2013

Last weeks action began week for the club with a hard fought win in the Intermediate football league against Monica’s in the bogies. Monicas are a tough team to beat and its never easy against them, but our lads played well and won by 1-13 to 1-10. On Thursday our Senior camogie girls travelled out to Thomas Davis for their first game in the summer league. Unfortunately we were beaten on the night, but still have plenty of games left in this competition.

On Saturday, again it was our ‘go games’ teams that were all in action. The U8 footballers played Peregrines in the Bogies followed by the U10s against Erins Isle and then the U11s against Ballyboden. They were all very enjoyable games and it was great to see so many kids playing in the bogies. At the same time our U9s made the short journey up to Plunketts to play in a football Blitz. By all accounts the lads played very well, and were all well deserving of the medals they won.

On Saturday afternoon we had 3 big games. Firstly our U13s put in a great display of hurling to comfortably beat Fingallians. This was a great win for the lads, who have really worked hard in the last few weeks. This game was followed by a crunch game in division 2 of the U14 hurling league. Ourselves and Naomh Mearnog were locked together at the top going into the game. The lads were brilliant from the first minute to the last and won the game 3-12 to 3-2 and now sit on top of the league. The last big game was our Intermediate football game out in Sylvesters. The lads had been on a bit of a roll lately in the league with some good wins. We had a very young team out and they were unlucky to lose out by 3 points. This leaves us just 4 points off the top halfway through the league.

On Sunday the main focus was on the 2 junior football teams in the 1st round’s of their championships. The Junior C team beat Portabello in the bogies by 3 points. The lead changed hands a number of times during this game but our lads did enough in the end to see the game out. Our junior D team travelled to plunketts for their first round game. In a game dominated by a very poor standard of refereeing we lost out by 6 points.

Weekend Review 10th June

Monday, June 10th, 2013

The weekend began in brilliant sunshine in the bogies on Saturday morning with some great underage hurling matches. Our U9s played two great games against Craobh Ciaran, with some great skills on show. The U11s then played two games against Naomh Olaf. This team has some really talented players and took some great scores in this game.

At the same time our U10s were playing in a hurling blitz up in Hartstown against Peregrines, Plunketts and O’Dwyers. All teams were very well matched and there were some great games. All players got well deserved medals and all went home happy.

Gael scoil festival day in club house

Back in the bogies at 12 our U14 Camogie team had a great win against Thomas Davis. This win puts the girls back in contention to win the league. Then our U14 boys played Naomh Olaf in the football league. Our lads were missing a few players and were narrowly defeated on the day. Our U13 footballers game down in St Vincent’s was stopped at halftime as a number of players from both teams had forgotten their gum shields. All juvenile players must now wear gum shields when playing football and players should always check that they have theirs’ with them for training and matches. This game will now go ahead on Thursday evening.

On Saturday evening a packed bus pulled out of the club heading for Wexford Park to watch the Wexford V. Dublin championship match. Although it was a poor game, we all went home happy after our own Eamonn Dillon rescued the Dubs with a late goal to force a replay next Saturday in Parnell Park. We wish the Dubs all the best for the replay.

On Sunday the bogies was again at centre stage for 3 big adult hurling games. The first game was a senior hurling league game against Naomh Mearnóg. Our lads dug deep, especially in the last 10 mins to hold on for a one point victory. This was a vital win for the team and puts us back into the running to reach the playoffs. The next game was our junior 5 hurling league game with Ballyboden. Our lads put in a strong performance to run out comfortable winners. This win puts us up to 2nd place in the league. One disappointment from this game was a serious injury to our corner forward Thomas Lynch. We wish him well in his recovery.

On the small pitch our U11 Camogie girls played Kilcoole in a very entertaining game. There were some great scores from both teams. I’m sure Johnny Browne will be happy in Australia with the girls performance. The final game of the day was our junior 7 hurling league game against Na Fianna. We had 19 players ready to brave the roasting weather for the game, but unfortunately Na Fianna were unable to field a team so the game didn’t go ahead.

The final event of a busy weekend was the very successful BBQ down in the club grounds. A large crowd enjoyed the lovely weather and chef Finbarrs cooking and there was a great atmosphere at the event. Hopefully the weather allows us to run more of these over the summer.

A Summers Night in the Bogies with the Barrs June 4.

Tuesday, June 4th, 2013

To night June 4 our under 14 hurlers and our second adult hurling team had two very importain matches, The under 14 hurlers are joint top of division two and needed to beat Raheany to night to stay there. Our second adult hurling team was playing Eirn Isle in the B championship and needed to win to stay in the competison. There is nothing like a summers night in the Bogies when the Barrs are playing hurling. A big crowd watched two great games from the four teams. The Barrs adult team won by a point in a very tight game. The under 14 won well in the end. To give people a flavor of to nights activities below is a number of pictures which capture some people and the Bogies at its best.

Weekend Review 27th May

Monday, May 27th, 2013

The weekends action began on Friday evening out in Dalkey with the U14 girls football team playing Cuala. Unfortunately our girls never got going in the game and were well beaten by a very strong Cuala team.

On Saturday morning it was all juvenile hurling in the bogies. Our U8s played a great game against Castleknock, with both teams giving their all and really getting stuck in. This was followed by a very entertaining game between our U11s and Erin Go Bragh. There was some great hurling on show from both teams with plenty of good scores. At the same time our U10s travelled out to the north county to play O’Dwyers and again there was some great individual performances from both teams.

While these games were going on, down the road in Christ The King church, some of our members were busy putting up a stall in the church grounds to take part in the church’s 80th anniversary celebrations. Thanks to all our members who helped out.

Back on the field on Saturday afternoon our U13s continued their winning ways against St Finians in the bogies. We ran out comfortable winners to keep us top of the football league. If this team keeps working hard, there could well be a promotion for them at the end of the season.

On Saturday evening our senior hurlers travelled out to Kevin’s for our division 2 league game. Having produced a big performance during the week against Ballinteer, it was important our lads kept the momentum going. Unfortunately, we put in a very flat display and lost out by 4 pts. The result was even more disappointing as Kevin’s didn’t play particularly well on the night either.

On Sunday our two junior hurling teams were in league action. First our division 5 team travelled up the road to play league leaders St Brigid’s. Our lads were missing a few players following a few late withdrawals and were not able to match a strong Brigids team. On Sunday afternoon our division 7 team travelled out to Faughs. When we arrived both teams waited 25 mins until the referee finally arrived and the game got going. We started well and were 8 pts up at halftime. We withstood a strong Faughs comeback in the second half and hung on to win by 3.

Our latest newsletter is now ready to go, so come down to the club and grab a few to deliver on your road.
