Feile Reflection 2013

Doing us proud our under 14 team

The Bogies this morning was a great place to be. It was one of those perfect mornings when the weather was sunny and light as the camogie teams from eight clubs across Dublin visited our field of dreams.

The games were well under way as I ramble around the pitches towards the dressing room. Our two pitches was a sea of different colours as the teams and their mentors got on with the games. On arriving there I was met by  the Barrs organizers and was asked straight away did I want a cup of tea.

In the John Paul centre the parents of our under 14 team were bussy looking after the players and parents of the visiting teams. There was a great selection of food which the parents of our under 14 team prevoid themselves which I though was a great idea.

Our team had played our first match and won and were getting ready to play there second. On the line for the match was a great section of our club. Young old ,senor mentors and junior mentors ,parents of the girls. Our under 14 hurling team was also up supporting their follow players.

The turn out from our club was impresive as was the turn out from the other clubs. I mention to some one that the  camogie game was flying in Dublin if this feile was any thing to go by.

As I took my leave to go a thought came into my mind about some of our members who have long gone to the other world and how proud they would be to see the seventh generation of Barrs teams and the way our members  could put on days like this.

Jack Cassely, Joe Brady ,Seamus Noland and Gerry Kehoe would be looking down realy pleased with their work. The girls didnt let them down either as they book their place in the final tommorow. Well done to all for to day it is what we are all about. Com on the Parish

Under 14 Football Match Report

Friday, April 26th, 2013

In windy conditions in the Boggies to night the Barrs under 14 football team had a narrow one point win over our near neighbours Eirn Isle. On a score line of 6 – 7 to 4 -12 this was a end to end stuff type game.

The Barrs had control of the first half with the strong wind at their backs blowing towards the Nephin road goal. At half time they lead the game by five points. In the second half Eirn Isle came alive and showed why they are in third position in this league as they went a head mid way through the second half.

The Barrs responded with great heart and determination and went ahead by a point . They held on for the win  against a strong finishing Isles team. Best for the Barrs was Ross Butler, Micheal Coady , Cian Peppard Leonard,Pierce O Brien ,Conor Cabuary, and man of the match Tadhg Stone who had a outstanding game

Senior Hurling ‘A’ Championship Preview

SHC A Preview. Naomh Fionnbarra v Ballyboden

O Toole Park Tuesday 30/April/2013

It’s that time of year again where we all become absorbed by the GAA, where county teams are starting to turn up the heat and your local club is preparing to lead the parish into the championship.

This Tuesday see’s the start of the clubs Senior Hurling Championship campaign. Our senior hurlers take on Ballyboden in the first round in O Toole Park.  When the draw was made for this year’s championship and the groups were laid out, all hurling eyes in Dublin usually look to see where the most decorated senior hurling team of the last 5 years have landed. This year they have landed on our front door. The task for our hurlers on Tuesday night is no doubt a big one, maybe the biggest in recent memory, but such is the reward for competing at the top level of hurling in Dublin. There may well be in excess of a total of 8 intercounty hurlers on show this Tuesday.

It was only 5 years ago we were beaten by 15 points by Ballyboden’s B team in the Senior B championship. From that time, we knew the work required to get ourselves into Dublin’s premium hurling competition was going to be massive, but here we are. Having captured the Senior B championship in 2011 we earned the right to move up to the top level. The progress made in such a short time frame is a testament to the hard work by our various management teams during this period as well as the players themselves. The praise must also extend as far as all of our volunteers who have given their free time to promote and progress hurling with the local youth in our small parish of Cabra over the last number of years. Our current position becomes all the more impressive by the fact that everybody involved in this panel was born and reared within a stone’s throw of our clubhouse.  From our management team, our physio, our water carrier right through the whole panel of players, who have all started with our club from an early age at juvenile level.  A feat very few clubs competing at this level can boast.  One thing our team can always depend on is our support. From our holy ground of the bogies to O Toole Park or wherever our team will play, the Cabra Colts always travel with big numbers

Last year gave this team their first taste of the Dublin SHC, and as a unit there was a feeling of underachievement felt by all involved. But for a goal the wrong side of the scoreboard against both Faughs and Na Fianna this team could have been sitting in the top 8 hurling teams in the county. This year the goal remains the same.

The Holy Grail for every hurling team in Dublin is to win the Senior Hurling Championship. It is fair to say that we as a club are closer to that now than we were 5 years ago, progress. This game marks a huge landmark for our club who have being working tirelessly every year to get to this stage we now find ourselves. Win lose or draw this game should be seen for what it is, progress.

Inter Football result vs Barrog

Wednesday, April 24th, 2013

On a wet damp evening in the boggies our inter footballers were beaten by a point by Naomh Barrog. It was a cruel way to lose this match as the Barrs had clawed  back a  Barrog seven point lead with only seconds remaining to conceded a free which was very dubious.

In a close fought first half  Barrrog went in at half time  leading by five points. Again cruel faith had a hand at the break of half time when  Barrog got a very soft goal. In fairness to Barrog they missed a penalty which was well saved by the Barrs keeper Lar Sweeetman. This put Barrog in the driving seat at the start of the second half.

After ten minutes into that half the game look like it was over as Barrog kick another two points and Mark O’Neill the big strong Barrs midfielder was stretcher off with concussing was at this point when the re-knowing Barrs fighting spirit kick in.

Gerard O Reilly started to dominate centre field and with the supply of ball going in to the forwards  the Barrs slowly brought the lead back with time nearly up. A super point from Paul Tuner jn on the stroke of the final whistle even up the match. But a draw wasn’t to be as Barrog got a free well within injury time which won the match.

Overall the team played well and kept driving forward. Barrog probably had a little edge up front as they seem to be sharper in front of goal. For the Barrs it was a good battling performance and they deserve to get something from the match.

Scores for the Barrs, Paul Turner jn Six points four from play, Karl Turner two points from play Shane Kelly and Ger Dodrill one point each.

Under 16 Hurling league match in the Boggies

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013

Our field of dreams the Boggies.

In really good fine weather to night our under 16 hurlers had a very good win against Ballinteer St Johns. Having been beaten by the same opposition last year by over 15 points this result shows how far this team and their managers have traveled in the last twelve months.Hard work and an unshakable bond between the players and mentors have drove this team on. Tonight’s match was totally dominated from start to finish by this band of brothers Barrs team. The result was fashion on a great display from the six backs on the field. Playing as a unit they were as one as Ballinteer found it very hard to break them down. All six forwards were on the score sheet. This was a great team performance with Sean Aherne, Chris O’Brien and Dylan Curly having great games. Dillon Curley put in a man of the match performance. After the championship defeat two weeks ago this team put their heads down and worked very hard and have got two great results over the last two week end.

Keep it going boys, Up the parish.

Gaelscoil Bharra & Naomh Fionbarra

The Winning Formula

Tá áthas oraionn a rá go bhfuil an Roinn Oideachais ag tosnú ar an obair i gcomhair scoil nua i Feabhra 2014. Beidh scoil 3 urlár againn le gairdín ar an díon agus beidh páirc nua le falla iomána ann. Tá gach duine ag súil leis.

We are delighted that the Department of Education are finally going to build a new school for Gaelscoil Bharra in Februray 2014. This is recognition of the work started by Naomh Fionnbarra GAA in 1995 to kickstart an Irish revival in Cabra and we now have a naíonra, primary school and secondary school as Gaeilge in the area. These schools have been built from the ground up by the community with very little support from the State , who have taken 20 years to start the new building. The school will be a three storey building with a roof top garden and a new pitch, with a hurling wall, ensuring that we will have many generations of footballers and hurlers from this parish.

We should be very proud of what this community has achieved ovewr the last 20 years since Naomh Fionnbara GAA club started the school . Cabrach Abú! Sean O Donaile

The all important goal came in the last minute when Andras Curley shot the ball to the net after Cory Kinsela broke the ball on the square.

Our second hurling team were beaten in the first game of the champioship by 7 points by St Maurs. By all accounts it was a poor display from a very strong Barrs team.

Dublin well beaten

Sunday, April 21st, 2013

In a very one sided game Dublin were very poor against an informed Tipp team. Danny Sutcliff seem to be the only Dublin player who reach the pace of the game and was the only player to cause Tipperary any trouble. Dublin never look like scoring a goal and it must be worrying for Dalo and his management team coming into the championship in May that the forwards are struggling in this department.
