Hurling Results

Monday, May 28th, 2012

On Sunday morning in Tymon North our second hurling team pick up two points in a hard fought game against Faughs. On a high score line of 4 -15 to 4 -13 the Barrs struck late in the game to win. In a game were the Barrs found it very hard to get going Faughs had the upper hand most of the match. Good away win for third improving team.

Our third adult team travel out to Kevins in Dolphin park on Sunday after noon. In great weather this match was out standing . Both teams gave it all in a game which had every thing. Greater spirit and team work saw the Barrs come away with the points on a scoreline of 2-18 to 2-12.

It is games like this which makes all the hard work worth it. All creidit to the two sets of players and to our own team who showed what Fionbarrs is all about.

Senior Hurling Result

Sunday, May 27th, 2012

Friday night in O’Toole park the Barrs took on Faughs in the final game of the group in the senior hurling championship. With both teams out of the quarter finals this match was important for each team as the loser went into the regulation play off.

On a lovely summers night both teams gave  themselves to a tough tense hour hurling. The game itself was not free flowing affre as the referee contribute to a start stop game. A goal was always going to decided this game and Faughs got it mid way thropugh the second half.

It was a very sofe goal but these are the things that win matches. The Barrs on the night did not get going . Paul Tunner, Padddy Whelan, and Anto Costelo were the players who stood out on the night in a game in which we should of  won.

A lack of discipline and ruthlessness in front of goal were some of the causes for this defeat. On a positive note the team kept going till the end and should of got a result. If we can get twenty players fit and committed the senior A championship is there for the taking. This has to come from the players.

A good turn out from club supporters and it was only five Euros in which was a bonus in these hard time. A lot of hurling left in the year and a lot to look foward from this young team.
