John Doyle Tipperary ‘A IrishLegend’

Friday, December 31st, 2010

John Doyle was a legend in his own life time.

Winning eight All-Ireland medals, eleven League medals, ten Munster Championships, one Minor All-Ireland and six Railway Cup medals, a feat that only the bold Christy Ring could match.

He was a great defender who made a great impact on the GAA and Irish life. The club sends its deepest sympathies to John’s family, his club Holycross Ballyhcahill and to the Tipperary people.

Where Tipp went, Ireland followed“. Ar Dheis De go raibh a anam.

The Dubliners @ Vicar St

Friday, December 31st, 2010

There was a great session at Vicar St last night with the Dubliners taking to the stage. They were also joined by guest artists such as Damo Dempsey and Glen Hansard.

Barney McKenna was in great form with his sea shanty ‘South Australia’ and John Sheehan’s self composed ‘St Patrick’s Cathedral’ had all the ingredients of that historic place in the tune.

Thanks to all the staff who were very helpful. We met a old friend of the club ‘The Chief’ there and he was talking about a good Cabra man who passed away a few weeks ago and was a great musician from Dingle Road, Alan Tunder. Ar Deis De go raibh a anam uasal.

We gathered at half ten on a cold snowy Saturday in the club house. Mentors Terry MacKeogh, Nicky Kehoe, Kevin Kehoe and Stephen Brown were all geared up for the under eights Christmas trip to the Zoo.

After being postponed a number of weeks ago because of the weather, things did not look good when Stephen Brown tried to start the club bus which failed to get going.

Up stepped the parents and a convoy of cars which left the club house for the fifteen minute trip to the Zoo.

A group of 25 children and parents were greeted at the main entrance by head manager of the Zoo, Gerry Creighton.

He gave us a fantastic tour of over three hours where we got to see first hand a Boar Constrictor and Snow Lepoards feeding. We also got to feed the giraffes, elephants and the best of all was we were the first group of children to see the new little Rino which gave great joy to all who seen him.

All of the events were accompanied by a talk from all the keepers who look after the different animals. We got some great group pictures in the snow with all the different animals and these will be on the website in a few days.

The club would like to thank the parents and mentors who ran the trip and to the Zoo staff who were really brilliant under the direction of Gerry Creighton.

Congratulations
