Our Juvenile teams had a number of matches at the weekend. Our U14 footballers beat the league leaders Fingal Ravens in a tight game in the Bogies on Friday night. This puts them in second place in the league.

On Saturday our U10′s, U11′s and U12′s all took part in the GAA Go Games and done very well. Our U14 and U16 comogie teams had two great games in the Bogies on Sunday. They played very well and played their heart out.

Our U8′s had a great time down in Mobhi road in a hurling blitz. We want to thank both Na Fianna and St Bridget’s management for the great cooperation from the team managers on the day.

Retirement of Micheal Ó Muircheartaigh

Friday, September 17th, 2010

The Barrs of Cabra wish Micheal Ó Muircheartaigh all the best on his retirement. The Ó Muircheartaigh moment that our club members have been talking about over the last two days is the match between Tipparary and Galway.

Pat Fox got the ball and Joe Rabbit went in chase of him. Micheal’s take on this was,

“You never seen a Rabbit chase a Fox, well here in Croke Park its happening before my eyes.”

Go raibh milie maith agat o na phobal as Cabrach Baile Ath Claith.

We also want to thank Micheal on his support for the club in the promotion of our native languish in th Cabra area through the Gaelschoil Bharra which the club founded. ‘Slainte agus Saol chugat.’

Football Championship Report

Senior Footballers

On a damp wet night out in the north county the Barrs finished their 2010 championship run. A good sized crowd turned up in St Margaret’s GAA Club as St. Olafs and the Barrs locked themselves into a titanic struggle to reach the quarter finals the following Saturday.

St. Olafs went in at half time in front as they hit two goals in the last minute of the half to lead on a score line of 2-4 to1-5. At the end of normal time both teams were tied on the score of 1-10 to 2-7. The Barrs let in a soft goal in the first period of extra time but fought back hard to draw level with a few minutes to go, but unfortunately St. Olafs got a point to run out winners. (more…)

Scoil

On Thursday night the 25th of August the club held a special EGM. A full house of  full members voted on the issue of giving the lease of a section of the ground we have at our club house back to DCC. They in turn would have to hand it over to the Department of Education for a new school to be build on the site. After a very lively debate there were a lot of questions asked as the motion was put to the floor on the issue of the lease. (more…)
