Day 3 & 4 of Festival Week

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Volunteer

On Monday 16th Aug, the festival had a night and day of hectic activities. At 2-5pm 130 senior citizens danced and sang the day and night away in the club lounge to the music of Bobby Smith.

The club want to thank Club Cabs and our own members who gave their time to look after the older people. At 7pm the U8′s had a great match against Oliver Plunkets/ER 0n the all weather pitch, with our U11 camogie team playing the same opposition in the Bogies.

On the other pitch in the Bogies our senior Comogie team were well beaten by a strong Brigid’s team in the quarter finals of the championship. Our annual club mass was held in our gym room with over 70 people remembering past members who are now deceased.

The club house was packed with our own Craig Gallagher playing music to a captive audience. Tuesday was greyhound racing night with over 160 people attending our race night at Harold’s Cross. A great night was had by all!!

Day Two of Festival Week

65 Years2

Day two of festival week again brought the sun out as our two junior adult teams followed on from our first team with both picking up wins. The second team beat St Vincents away with a great display of football, while the third team beat Clontarf in a good game at home in the Bogies.

The Jonathan O’Reilly Tournament was held on the all weather pitch from 2 to 5 pm for 8 to 10 year olds. 30 boys and girls played 6 great games in a well attended event. The O’Reilly family presented the cup to the winners, while all players got medals for taking part.

Martin Costello celebrated his 50th birthday in the club last night while Denise Loftus celebrated her 40th birthday, the club sends them both best wishes. Hard luck to the Dublin minor hurling team and our own Eamon Dillon as they put up a great show in the semi-final, just a little bit short at the end.

Festival-Week

On day one of the Festival (14th August), the crowds assembled at the club house at two oclock. The weather was glorious as over 500 children and adults line up for the parade from the club house on Faussagh Avenue to the Bogies.

Led by over 50 Harley Davison Bikers and Pipers the parade took over a half a hour to reach the sun drenched John Paul Park. Featured in the parade were two vintage cars and a horse drawn trap which was full with Barrs supports. Over 15 teams in the club colours made the parade very colourful.

At the Bogies over 50 tinys tots played two matchs as our GPO and Dublin Player Eamon Fennell ran the long puck and skills competition. A great opening to a great day.

Run up to Festival Week

Monday, August 9th, 2010

65 Years2

Our Community festival starts on Saturday 14th Aug with a parade up to the Bogies. We are asking all members of the club to give a hand in some way during the seven days of activities.

It’s your club and your week, please don’t leave it to the faithful few to do all the work. Be an active part of your club and not a hurler on the ditch as we have six teams playing in that league. Contact Johnny Smithers (sn) or Harry Byrne on the club reception 01 868 6209 to find out how you could get involved.

Congratulations

Best wishes to John and Leanne on the birth of their two lovely daughters from all the members in the club.

Santa Maria Day Care Centre Update

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

A new voluntary fundraising committee has been set up. They started last weekend with bag packing and have a number of other events planned over the next months. There is still a big gap in funds as there is a proposed 6% cut in HSE funding which will leave the voluntary committee that run the centre in a critical financial state in keeping the centre open.

There is a proposed meeting with the local CEO of the HSE in the next few weeks and hopefully the short fall in funding can be obtained. There was a local development plan drawn up a number of years ago for the whole site around that side of the Church between the HSE, Dublin City Council, and the Church Authorities which should be looked at again. It would also give employment for local people in these difficult times.

We are asking all our club members to support the retention of this community service which most of the area has benefit from for over forty years. Contact the centre which your support in what every way you can.

A big thanks to the O’Neill and Kirby Families for a great day out in Trim. Everything was brilliant and best wishes to Mark and Angie for their future together.

Our Senior hurlers missed out on promotion by a single point as they failed to beat St. Pats of Palmerstown last Wednesday night in a high scoring game. Having come back from a 8 points lead twice, the team lacked the killer punch to go on and win the game.
