Senior Football2

On an ideal night at Parnell Park for football our senior footballers find themselves going back into the championship through the back door. On a score line of 1-14 to 0-16, the Barrs have only themselves to blame for the defeat.

Having controlled most of the match, we went asleep in the last quarter to let St Margaret’s into it and were lucky to not to been going out at the last kick of the ball in normal time. In a re-run of normal time the Barrs again controlled the game but through taking the wrong options and having over 15 wides, the game slipped away from us.

In fairness to St Margaret’s they never gave up and if you are not ruthless enough, teams will come back at you in this level of football. The game was played in good spirits but the Na Fianna referee made some very strange decisions.

We must regroup for the back door and hopefully we can lean from last night. The support for the team was very poor for a club our size and people should make it a point to be out supporting our senior teams in championship.

Dublin Match

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Hard luck to Dublin yesterday, should of crossed the line.

Hopefully it can be work put to use for the championship. We were all a bit disappointed yesterday after the match, we went into the Auld Triangle  in Dorset Street. We had great fun with the one and only Jim Berch and the Hallessey brothers. It is well worth a visit for anyone looking for a good pint after or before a match in Croke Park.

Hopefully with the Hurling next week, our luck might change.

Dublin_Hurlers

Great credit to the Dublin hurlers and management on their win on Sunday. Phelo and Franisie and the boys were talking last night of getting out the caravan to Thurles for Sunday week. A historic occasion to celebrate but it is also very important that we win.

A great boost for the hurling men in the city and the game. The footballers are out on Easter Sunday against Cork which should be a great game. It’s the last time we will see Croker before the Queen comes, changing times.

Both teams need the best support they can get so lets go out and support the teams. Don’t forget to wear your Easter Lilly this week!!

Our-Comm

A great weekend of entertainment was had at our home pitch, the Bogies, in Cabra on the 16th of April. On Saturday our under 8,9 and 11 teams packed the two pitches in glorious sunshine in a feast of great hurling as Dwyers, O’Tooles and Naomh Mearnóg visited our home pitch.

In the afternoon the under 13′s played O’Tooles and our under 14′s played St Sylvesters at home. Both had two good wins. The match of the day goes to our under 16 team who beat Templeogue Synge Street in a great championship match away from home.

In a packed John Paul park our senior hurlers put up a great display by beating St Pats by 10 points in a good game of hurling. The Troller stole the show hitting 4-3 inside a 20 minute period which Pats never recovered from. On Sunday morning our second hurling team beat Cuala in Dalkey as big Gossie got a hat trick of goals to seal the game for the parish side.

In the Bogies our minors and under 15 were playing OP/ER and Na Fianna. The local derby with Plunketts was a very exciting affair as both teams gave it their all. The Barrs hit a purple patch with five minutes to go which gave them the win. On the other pitch our under 15 had a great tussle with Na Fianna and won well in the end in a very good team performance.

At 3pm our third adult hurling team played Monicas in a very exciting game. The Barrs were behind for most of the match and came good in the second half with man of the match performance from Lee McKeogh driving the Barrs to a good win.

Our adult second team beat a strong OP/ER in a exciting match in the local derby. Our third adult team went down by a few points to Scoil Ui Chonnell.

Our minor hurlers were beaten by Sylvesters. Our U16, 15 ,13 ,12 won and our U14 & 11′s were beaten. Our U8, 9, 10 all played in the go games on Saturday. Johnny Brown and Babara Kellys under 16 camogie team had a good win on Sunday.

Dublin_Croke-Park_2

It was great to be in Croke Park yesterday. The weather was great and a decent crowd set the scene for a good days entertainment. Dublin ran away with the first half and it looked as it was going to be a non contest.

We were all a bit disappointed when our senior hurlers were beaten that morning but the wheel turned as the day progressed and what we saw softened the earlier defeat.

A bit of history was made  as our under 11 and 12 played at the half time in Croke Park. A  small bit of mist came into the eyes when I saw the children of Cabra wearing the royle blue on the Croke Park scared sod.

It was a great sight to see and it was a proud day for our club, the childern and their parents. There was some great play in the game with great blocking and catching and great movement. The Dubs match ended up with a win and we went home very proud and contented.
