AGM

Over Forty members attended our 65th AGM last night. There was plenty of speakers and discussions on all subjects involving the club over the last year.

Finishing at 12.30am, all issues got plenty of air time. As we are in difficult economic times the main discussion was around how the club was doing financially.

Our financial controller Shane Mcgill gave us a very good break down on all aspects of the clubs performance and his main massage to all our members was to play our Lotto. This was clubs main revenue generator which could be doubled in two years if members supported it.

Other topics discussed were the Gaelscoil, the performance of the teams, our new pitch, social committee and getting members involved in running teams.

It was also good to see young blood coming into the committee with the election of Seamus McGratten as registrar.

Former Player, Frank Hayden

Sunday, December 5th, 2010

My name is Frank Hayden. I lived at 92 Dingle Road and I went  to St Finnbars from 1950 to 1957 in Mr McAuliffs class.

I played around 1957/58 mostly in the 15 acres, the Bogies and Fairview park. Mr Keogh (a really nice man) came knocking on the door and kept me going for Naomh Fionnbarra.

I was in the same class as Eddie Tracey and he invited me to his home after school one day and I was astonished at the number of boxing trophies he had won, a glass cabinet full of them!

I heard about the web site through my brother in law Paddy Fallon who is ex Bannow road, now New york and I wanted to thank you for all the info, specially regarding Eddie.

Kilmichael West Cork Trip

Monday, November 29th, 2010

Kilmicheal

Last weekend 25 of our members paid a trip to west Cork to the 90th anniversary of the Kilmichael Ambush by Tom Barry and his flying column.

Over the two days we visited a few other historical sites like the Beal na Blath and Crossbarry in the West Cork area.

Over three thousand people attended the commemoration which was given by the Norths deputy first minster Martin McGuinness. We would like to thank Cionnaith Ó Súilleabháin for his hospitality and the staff in Donovan’s Hotel Clonakilty for looking after us.

Suprise Birthday Party

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

This news is to be kept away from Jimmy Cullen as there is a suprise party for his seventy birthday in the club on Friday night.

Of those seventy years Jimmy has given sixty years service to our club. He is one of two people who have won five championship medals that spans four decades with the club.

He has served on committees and mentored many teams. He was playing up till he was sixty two years of age for the club. Players, friends and club members are asked to make the effort to come on the night. One of our best club people is Jimmy Cullen, a true Barrs man.
